SOP Care Sheet

Enclosure

The Woodland (once known as the Eastern) Box Turtles are housed in a plastic turtle tub. Half of the tub floor is covered in reptibark. The other half has coconut husk that has to be misted or sprayed down until all areas are moist. For their swimming needs, the part of the tub that bends down is filled with water. Dechlorinated water is utilized for the water that they swim in so they do not get irritated eyes. Dechlorinated drops are used to remove the chlorine.

Daily Care

Spot clean cage and provide fresh water daily. Mist or spray the coconut husk if needed.

Lighting and Temperature

We provide a ZooMed Powersun100 watt bulb. We place the light on a timer. The timer is set for a 12/12 light cycle. We use an infrared thermal heat gun to check the temperature of our cage regularly. The normal temperature range for the eastern box turtle is 72 degrees F to 90 degrees F.

SOP Feed Schedule

We feed our Eastern Box Turtles every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. They receive a veggie platter consisting of corn, peas, green beans, and carrots. Sometimes they receive a couple of pieces of fruit and flower petals. We also give them one handful of Turtle/Tortoise diet. The turtles can only have meat on Friday. We alternate from crickets, mealworms, redworms, and waxworms. When feeding crickets, we dust them with calcium.
