Enclosure

A 10 gallon glass aquarium with screen lid with attaching clips is used. In the cage, there is a log for the cockroaches to climb on. There is a water dish with a sponge in it filled with dechlorinated water (sponge is used so cockroaches don't drown). There is also a food dish.

Daily Care

Spot clean cage, provide fresh water, and scrub off branches/plants daily. Strip cage every 3 weeks.

Lighting and Temperature

Cockroaches are a nocturnal invertebrate. We provide a Zoo Med 40 watt bulb. This light is attached to a timer. Set the cycle for 12/12.

SOP Feed Schedule

Cockroaches are offered two bowls of food. The "dry" bowl can be dog food, lab block, etc. We only replace when food is soiled or depleted. The "wet" bowl can have any type of veggie or fruit. Our roaches especially like banana peels with a pinch of fish food on it. The "wet" bowl must be replaced daily.
