Axolotl

SOP Care Sheet

Enclosure

We keep our two female Axolotl’s in a 40 Breeder. The bare minimum would be a 20 long. We keep our 1 male separated until breeding time. Both cages are bare bottom (don’t want them to swallow gravel) with tons of logs and plants for them to hide inside. Both cages have a sponge filter.

Daily Care

We complete a 15% water change once a week on both cages. We fill the cages back up with dechlorinated water. We wipe the sides down when algae starts to grow. Use an aquarium sponge.

Lighting and Temperature

Axolotl’s need room temperature water. Do not use a heater. Also, room lighting is fine.

SOP Feed Schedule

When our axolotl’s were young (till about one year of age), we fed our animals daily. Now that they are over a year of age, we feed them every other day. We feed them pellets made for axolotls.
